August 2004, Victoria Tower, Jersey
Company in residence for the Jersey Arts Centre summer workshop
Treacle Theatre Company worked with 25 young people from Jersey, aged between 8 and 14, to create a site-specific performance at Victoria Tower, a beautiful Martello Tower and site of National Heritage. Our personal responses to the site led to the creation of an independant and very individual island.
The audience needed to stamp their visas, learn some of the local body language and study our eventful history, before being allowed into the Queen’s castle… While in the woods preparations for the lipstick-war were underway! Once inside the castle our visitors would witness the shameful behaviour of Lord Crosby, gaze at the stars, take a look at the family tree and join the very serious fun in an episode of ‘who will be the next queen?’
