Urban infrastructure / Live-art
Commuter Camo is a live art intervention in which (part of) a performer takes on some of the characteristics of their immediate environment; an urban chameleon.
Items of clothing or clothing accessories are created using the same patterns and materials that can be found in the upholstery of local buses, trains and public buildings. A performer takes these items onto and into the modes of transport and buildings in question. A subsequent stage of development will incorporate commuting patterns that converge upon, or cut across, the city of Stuttgart.
The intervention is part of a wider body of research that explores our relationship to an urban environment. Susanne Kudielka has a specific interest in documenting and responding to the every-day camouflage that can be found within, or introduced to, an urban ‚scene’.
